Biblical Understanding of Fear vs. Faith

Before we can fully understand that biblical principle of fear verses faith, we must first understand that fear and faith are opposing opposites. Oddly enough, the same principle applies to both fear and faith... you must believe. The difference however is what or whom do you believe in?

The Bible clearly tells us on a number of occasions “don’t fear” or “fear not” however we tend to forget the most important reason for that statement. The bible records those words to inform us that we have a guarantee given to us through the infallible Word of God... “I am with you”

Isaiah 41:10 - Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.

Genesis 28:15 - Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you.”

Just as FAITH activates the hand and promises of God FEAR throws the principle of FAITH INTO REVERSE! You now “believe in” something other than what God has said or promised through the vehicle of His Word.

By focusing on the problem(s) and the “what ifs” more than the solution (which is Christ Jesus) we manifest the same belief system of FAITH, just in reverse. The reversal of the biblical principle of FAITH then creates emotions and images of an uncertain future. Those emotions and images that we find ourselves “believing” create the opposite of FAITH in GOD. It creates the opposite response.

F.EA.R. - FALSE EVIDENCE APPEARING REAL....

The kingdom of darkness is well aware of this one principle. Nothing pleases God more than mankind, particularly his children believing and trusting in Him.

Hebrews 11:6 - And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.

The bible is full of scriptures that encourage us to have FAITH IN GOD. The world, our flesh and the host of hell encourages us to embrace the unknown with FEAR.

We must fill our spirit and mind with scriptural nourishment that feeds our FAITH.

Jeremiah 29:11 - For I know the plans that I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for well-being, and not for calamity, in order to give you a future and a hope. (NIV)

So when the unexpected happens...and it will, know this, that God will use everything that you go through to work out for your good.

Romans 8:28 - And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. (NIV)

Finally, the bible states:

Deuteronomy 30:19 - Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!

YOU HAVE THE POWER TO CHOSE!

FAITH OR FEAR is not something that just “happens” to you without your input. FEAR simply fills the space where FAITH should abide and takes advantage of the fact that you have NOT made the choice to have FAITH in God.

SO....CHOOSE WISELY....
